Better Bridge Classes
Bridge is said to be the Rolls-Royce of card games, offering the suspense of poker and the excitement of athletic
sports in a social setting. It is enjoyed by millions of people all over the world due to its unending variety. It
is the most stimulating, most intriguing, most fascinating and most challenging of all card games. Each deal has some
quality of strangeness providing enjoyment, laughter and sheer entertainment.
In these days of rising financial pressures, increasing unemployment and early retirements resulting in more leisure time and
greater longevity bridge is a wonderful pastime which stimulates the brain, improving memory and concentration.
Investing in a new sport can be costly. However, when you decide to take up bridge all you need is a deck of cards and three other
players - a very inexpensive pastime. On average, 12,000 people worldwide play bridge for free on the internet at any given time
from the comfort of their own homes.
When embarking on something new it is always better to develop the correct habits and methods from the start. Like every skill,
bridge should be learned from a qualified teacher. At Better Bridge Classes you will be taught the game in a structured format by a
Contract Bridge Ass.of Ireland qualified and experienced teacher. Each class consists of tuition, sample games on a 'Big Bridge
Board', practice games, comprehensive hand-out with self correcting exercises, recommended reading and websites.
This winter I encourage you to attend Better Bridge Classes and learn the thrilling game of Bridge. You will find its lure
irresistible, its addiction heady and exciting - guaranteed to become a lifelong pursuit. Long winter evenings will seem shorter
when you play bridge with friends. You will find yourself looking forward to the Irish winter!

Claregall Indirect Dyslexia Learning (IDL) Celebrates Ist Anniversary
Claregall IDL is a tutored, multi- sensory, computer-based system to help children and adults with reading/spelling difficulties,
catering for students in Galway city / Sth. Galway and Nth. Clare. It is operated by Carmel Murphy - with a long background in
education and her daughter Elaine.
The centre has had a very successful first year and the tutors are delighted with the progress of their students.
Primary school children who presented with reading/spelling difficulties in their Micra-T assessments last Sept. improved
dramatically using the multi-sensory IDL methods. To the delight of their parents, their reading/spelling ages measurably improved
and are now equal to or have surpassed their chronological ages. Results showed a 6-12 months improvement in reading and spelling
for three months attendance (1 term). Students also showed improved self- confidence and concentration resulting in better school
performance. A by-product of the programme, students became competent touch typists - a must in this technology era.
Adults using IDL appreciate the improvement in their reading skills, giving them access to new educational opportunities.
IDL has been operating in Ireland for eight years and is effective for students of all ages. It has a complete set of materials and
methods, using individual lesson plans and direct tutoring.
IDL aims to develop students' potential, so that reading and spelling are no longer a problem.
The centre is now enrolling for the next school year.
