KINVARA

Traditional Bar & Irish Sea Food
Kinvara is a rural fishing village on the coast road from Galway to Clare and gateway to the Burren. The town is splendidly sited on Kinvara Bay. It is overseen by Dun Guaire Castle, built in the 16th Century, which is open to visitors during the summer season.
Kinvara is famous for two of its festivals, Cruinniu na mBád(traditional boat festival with Galway Hookers and Currach), and Fleadh na gCuach (traditional Irish music festival). The Cruinniu is held in August and the Fleadh in May each year. The currach is the traditional boat of the western seaboard used by fishermen. The Galway Hooker, with its unique shape are a spectacular sight, and were traditionally used for transporting goods up and down the western Atlantic coast of Ireland. Today, the Galway Hookers are mostly used for pleasure sailing and always attract attention when under full sail. Local boat trips are available from the pier in Kinvara.

Other activities include horse riding and guided walks. More details on Kinvara can be found at kinvara.com.
